I assume these comments were

I assume these comments were left by Scott, but if it was someone else do let me know. Sorry about the Anonymous comments thing - we are working out all the kinks over time. I'll address your comments top to bottom:

  • I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that sees a potentially rocky road ahead for Android. Their growth not only signals success of the platform to the market, but to their competitors as well. You better believe Apple is going to do everything in their power to continue their dominance.
  • For Google Me, I still firmly believe that it will not be successful. Google is perfectly set up to battle Facebook. They above anyone else have the correct set of opportunities - they have the data, they have the user base, they have the trust of their users - what they lack is an understanding from consumers what their brand truly is. I believe Google is going to have a hard time convincing consumers they are anything other than Search and gmail (which in and of itself is a minority player in the webmail market).
  • For browser speed, I think we may have miscommunicated our point - browser speed will always be important, however it will not continue to be a selling point for much longer. Every browser will have the capability to load all types of pages REALLY fast. Some faster than others, but the difference between a .2 second and .3 second page load time is insignificant to most people.
  • Lastly, Jamendo has been my go-to music search site so far. Their library of creative commons music is great. The hard part is that there is no good way to search for music. The best you can do is put in a genre and listen to song after song, which is time consuming. Hence why the intro/outro music on the last 2 episodes has been OK but not great. We need to spend some serious time doing music searches.

Jerelle, you say that

Jerelle, you say that comparing iPhone sales to Android sales isn't really apples-to-apples because iPhone is a single device; but that's Apple's business model.  They have tight control over the software and hardware, and release a single device that's beautiful and perfect.  They've made a big bet that their form factors will have enough universal appeal to compete with more open devices.  We'll see if Kyle's prediction holds.  I'm not sure I disagree, but I don't think it's a safe bet.

I think you guys are

I think you guys are dismissive of 'Google Me' too early.

  1. They're investing heavily
  2. The whole world already has a Google account
  3. They've made a number of social 'mistakes' to learn from.
  4. Google has a number of properties that people are using that would integrate very well for them.

The argument that 'Facebook is king' doesn't mean much too me. It wasn't so long ago that Facebook was a small player.  Twitter is new as well.  The landscape of where people go on the web changes pretty quick.

In the point that speed will

In the point that speed will no longer be a 'feature' of future browsers, I disagree about that.Browsers continuously optimize for performanceand as they get faster, web developers push the bar of what sort of content they'll create in a webpage.  We're going to have richer webapps that require more performance from the browser.  There's still a lot room for improvement in terms of performance-- Javascript, HTML5, and hardware-accelerated graphic performance.  And as browsers catch up to these requirements, web developers will push harder for the next wave of web app technology.
