If you thought Patti LaBelle had an attitude, you should check out Microsoft these days... From calling the tech press out for greatly exaggerating the reports of their death to calling out Apple for their "Vista".... they're kicking butt and taking names (or at least that's what they would like for you to believe). The kitchen is heating up, should Apple get out? And much, much more on this thirst quenching episode of TBOT!
Totally agree that there can
Totally agree that there can (and probably will) be useful apps that come out of this, but I think we can all agree that they will be hard to find in the sea of cr-apps.
In other news, did anyone listening notice that this week you had Jerelle and I IN STEREO!? Tried to split our streams into left/right channels. Any opinions about this? Not sure if it is good, bad, or doesn't matter. Let me know your thoughts - I for one think it is easier to differentiate between us if we end up talking over each other, but that it is a bit distracting when you get a single voice in only one ear for a while.
RE: Google App Creator: I
RE: Google App Creator: I think it's probably a big flop too. The App creator will likely support very standard, popular data sources and scenarios. Unfortunately, I think better tailored apps already exist for the common cases, and so the App Creator doesn't add any value in that respect.
That said, what could be useful is a way to easily create hyper-specific apps following a template. i.e., a webmaster could easily create a tailored app that checks their RSS feed and display the latest content in a nice themed app. Or an app for the City of SmallTownsVlille with a map populated with the latest events pulled from a variety of sources. These simple apps could be made in a mobile webpage, but having a templated app creator lowers the barrier to entry.
